20 + Verified, Currently Vegan Celebrities 2018

Veganism taking Hollywood by storm. As veganism continues to grow and become more mainstream with trending fads such as Veganuary, Meatless Monday’s and No Meat May, countless documentaries exposing factory farming, the animal cruelty, the damage it does to our environment and of course our health as obesity, diabetes, cancer and heart disease rates are on the rise.

As people are now becoming more aware of the side effects of eating and consuming animals, dairy and eggs, it is no wonder that Veganism is growing at such an astonishing pace.

At first, there seemed to be a startling amount of celebrity vegans however upon my investigations I discovered some celebrities claiming to be vegan are not in fact vegan, perhaps they tried it or adopted the lifestyle but have since dropped it.

Not to name and shame (but I will anyway) Take Usher for example, Usher became Vegan after his father passed away in 2008 for health reasons, he was quite successful as a Vegan for a long time but then years later told reporters that he had dropped the lifestyle saying that “maintaining the lifestyle was expensive”!! I am very confident that you can afford to eat plant-based foods and your lame excuse is just a cop-out to go back to your old ways of eating.

Ok, so on that note lets now focus on the true vegan celebrities, the ethical ones!

#1 - Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell

Starting off the list is Kristen Bell, I just absolutely love everything about this amazing woman. From “Bad Moms”, to “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”, being the voice of Anna in “Frozen” and my beloved Netflix show “The Good Place” and everything else she does in between.

Kristen Bell born 1980 was vegetarian from the age of 11 because of her love for animals and by 2012 she and her husband became Vegan together after they watched the documentary “Forks over Knives’.

Kristen has taken her love of animals very seriously and during her time in Michigan has fostered numerous animals from The Humane Society, she often attends fundraisers for the “American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals” and is also affiliated with many other non-profit organisations’ dedicated to protecting animals.

#2 - Natalie Portman

Quoted “How we treat animals is powerfully connected to our relationship with the world and the earth itself”

Natalie Portman became vegetarian at the age of 8 and in 2009 became fully vegan after reading Jonathon Safron Foer’s “Eating Animals” this is where she got the inspiration to make her own documentary also called “Eating Animals”.

In this documentary, she exposes the animal cruelty, inhumane practices of factory farming, the effects it has on our environment and our health. Her documentary has a US release date for the 15 June 2018, so be sure to keep your eyes out. Here is a link to the trailer.

#3 - James Cameron

We all know and love James Cameron’s Romeo & Juliet version of the “Titanic” blockbuster movie and not to forget the epic fantasy/Sci-fi film “Avatar”!

James Cameron is also well known for his production in movies such as “The Terminator”, “Rambo” & “Aliens; just to name a few.

It is refreshing to know that such a talented and very influential man such as James Cameron is a vegan.

James Cameron and his wife turned vegan in 2012 with his children and has stated “By changing what you eat, you will change the entire contract between the human species and the natural world".

James Cameron’s latest documentary which was released in the US on 19 January 2018; called “The Game Changers”. The documentary breaks the myth that the human species requires any animal product for their diet.

The “Game Changers” is cutting edge and you know it’s going to be awe-inspiring with James Cameron being Executive Producer.

This documentary’s main focus is on athletes and bodybuilders who are excelling on a plant-based diet and proves that eating meat for muscle growth and weight loss is just a myth. The goal of this documentary is to highlight that elite professional athletes and bodybuilders not only survive but thrive on a vegan diet. Here is a link to the trailer

#4 - Ellen DeGeneres

No vegan celebrity list is complete without adding the groovy, dancing and hilariously funny TV personality Ellen DeGeneres & her Australian wife Portia De Rossi.

Ellen is an active animal rights activist and she describes herself “as a vegan and BIG animal lover”.

Ellen takes her love for veganism and animals seriously and has included on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” a section called “Going Vegan with Ellen”, she also promotes “Meatless Monday’s” and features vegan recipes.

With her diet, Ellen looks younger than ever at the age of 60 proving eating vegan and plant-based can definitely help slow down the ageing process.

#5 - Portia De Rossi

Ellen’s stunning wife Portia De Rossi (also Australian and vegan since 2008) shares the same belief system as her wife. Both Ellen & Portia are strong supporters of the “Gentle Barn” a Californian sanctuary for abused animals. The couple has adopted numerous rescue animals and continue to work with foundations to help stop and prevent animal cruelty.

#6 - Liam Hemsworth

Not only is this sexy Australian spunk the perfect poster boy for veganism, he is also the ambassador of the Australian Childhood Foundation, Liam Hemsworth really is a stand-up guy who backs up his own belief system with action.

Woody Harrelson (also vegan) was the inspiration behind Liam’s decision to become vegan.

Liam stated “having grown up with a love of animals and having been educated on the health benefits of a plant-based diet, it only made sense for me to go vegan. My own health and after all the information I gathered about the mistreatment of animals, I couldn’t continue to eat meat. The more I was aware the harder and harder it was to do. So, with the facts, I was gathering, and then just how I was physically feeling. I felt like I had to do something different, so I adopted this vegan diet lifestyle”

Liam Hemsworth was crowned in 2017 “Australia’s sexiest vegan Celebrity”. The award was presented by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and PETA has quoted “Hemsworth won the award not only because he is sexy but also more importantly for speaking up for animals”.

Seriously, can this guy get any sexier?

#7 - Carrie Underwood

Next on the list is Carrie Underwood who rose to fame as the winner in the fourth season of American Idol.

Carrie Underwood is recognised by “Billboard” as “Country Music’s Reigning Queen” and Rolling Stone has called her “The female vocalist of her generation in any genre”.

Carrie made this list not only because she is an amazing artist but on a more personal level she was one of nan’s favourite country music singers and her duet with Keith Urban “The Fighter” is especially dear to my heart.

Carrie stopped eating meat at the age of 13 because she could not stand the thought of eating animals. She is now 100% vegan for her love of all animals.

In an interview with PETA in 2007, Carrie stated “Ever since I was little I loved animals, if you told me I could never sing again, id say that was horrible, but it’s not my life. If you told me I could never be around animals again, I would just die”

#8 - Peter Dinklage

Many of us know and love Peter Dinklage mainly because Tyrion Lannister is the Coolest Game of Thrones character of all time, often referred to as the “imp” or “half man”.

Peter Dinklage has been vegetarian since the age of 16 is an active animal rights activist and also supports “Farm Sanctuary”.

Peters top statement and quote about veganism is “I like animals, all animals, I wouldn’t hurt a cat or a dog or a chicken or a cow and I wouldn’t ask anyone to hurt them for me. That’s why I am a vegan”

The thing I love most about this highly talented celebrity is his compassion towards animals. If you haven’t watched his 3 ½ minute video “Face your Food”, I will link it below. This eye-opening, short film clip exposes the animal cruelty in factory farming. Peter narrates the video on behalf of PETA advocating a vegan diet on ethical grounds.

He also says it best when he says “By buying meat, eggs and dairy products, you’re paying for cruelty.” And that’s exactly what we are doing each time we purchase meat, eggs and dairy, we are essentially funding the industry and the inhumane slaughter and conditions these innocent animals have to suffer. Here is a link to the trailer

#9 - Ruby Rose

Another Aussie famous Hollywood celebrity who is well known in her role as Stella Carlin in the popular TV series “Orange is the New Black” and more recently her role in “Pitch Perfect 3” as Calamity, the lead singer and guitarist in the band “Ever Moist”

Sexy, stunning and extremely talented Ruby Rose has exactly what it takes to be on this list.

Ruby emerged onto the scene in the media spotlight as a TV presenter on MTV Australia, you may also recognise Ruby as the face of Maybelline New York in Australia.

Ruby has been on a strict vegan diet for many years now, although she didn’t consider herself a “fully fledged vegan” as she was still wearing leather. However, in an article released by “Live Kindly” on 19 December 2017, she is in the process of designing her own line of vegan leather handbags’, so in my eyes, this chick is totally 100% vegan. Her new range is set to be released late this year, and I for one am looking forward to purchasing one of her vegan leather handbags as soon as they hit the shelves.

#10 - Pamela Anderson

Pamela was vegetarian in her early teens after she saw her father cleaning out an animal he had just killed. Pamela is now vegan and works extremely hard with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) promoting veganism through the animal rights organisation.

She has also conducted campaigns condemning the commercial fur industry among many other animal rights causes such as educating people of the horrors that animals at Sea World endure just to name a few.

Pamela Anderson has been an animal rights activist basically all her life, she has said “I’ve been an animal activist since I was little, I remember rolling nickels and quarters and sending them off to animal causes”

Along with James Cameron, Pamela Anderson is also an Executive Producer of the new documentary “The Game Changers” which was mentioned under James Cameron’s profile

Pamela Anderson is a perfect example of who to follow for the truth, facts and her progress in her fight for our future.
